Over the years, I’ve noticed something: summer travel to Walt Disney World has taken a bit of a dip. Thanks to bloggers, influencers, and countless “crowd calendars,” summer often gets painted as a season to avoid. I get it. There’s only one thing that’s guaranteed in a Florida summer, and that’s heat. But here’s the thing… I think summer is one of the most underrated times to visit the parks. And as someone who’s traveled to Walt Disney World in every season, I’m here to make the case for it.

Why You Shouldn’t Sleep on Summer
Many people still assume the summer months are the busiest because kids are out of school nationwide. Years ago, that was true. But lately? Not so much. The combination of the heat and the popularity of “off-season” trips has caused summer attendance to decline. And that’s where the magic begins because Disney has been rolling out some of their best discounts during the summer to entice visitors. In 2025, for example, free dining for kids returned in June, there were generous room discounts, special ticket deals, and even a fantastic July offer for Disney+ subscribers. These aren’t the kinds of discounts you see during peak attendance periods.
The Heat Factor
Yes, it’s hot—really hot. There’s no sugarcoating that. But with a little strategic planning, you can make the heat manageable and even enjoy your trip without melting into Main Street. Here are my favorite ways to beat the summer sun:
5. Take a Midday Break
Get to the parks early, then head back to your resort in the midafternoon. Nap, hit the shops, or go resort hopping. Return in the evening when the sun isn’t as intense and the parks start to cool down.

4. See an Indoor Show
This is the ultimate two-for-one: entertainment plus air conditioning. Some of my favorite long, fully indoor shows include:
- Hall of Presidents – 23 minutes (Magic Kingdom)
- Carousel of Progress – 21 minutes (Magic Kingdom)
- American Adventure – 29 minutes (EPCOT)
- For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration – 25 minutes (Hollywood Studios longest fully indoor show)
- Finding Nemo: The Big Blue and Beyond – 35 minutes (Animal Kingdom)
3. Pool Time
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, the pools are not just beautiful, they’re a perfect midday escape.
2. EPCOT Pavilion Cool-Downs
The Land Pavilion and The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion are both packed with attractions, snacks, and plenty of cool air.
1. Book a Late Lunch
Plan a sit-down meal during the hottest part of the day and spend two hours enjoying great food in the glorious air conditioning.
Bottom line: Summer at Walt Disney World isn’t what it used to be in terms of crowds, and the discounts alone can make it worth your while. If you plan smart, build in breaks, and take advantage of all that indoor magic, summer could easily become one of your favorite times to visit.
